Things a Private Investigator Can Do in Singapore

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions that people believe about private investigators. In movies, private investigators may break into buildings to get information, take photos of what’s happening inside a home, or perform other acts that real private investigators aren’t allowed to do. Before hiring one, knowing what a private investigator can do is of upmost importance.

Types of Work Private Investigators Perform

Private investigators execute a wide variety of work, including (but not limited to):

· Maid surveillance;

· Employee movement surveillance – (in particular, key personnel);

· Spousal surveillance (to investigate possible adultery);

· Children surveillance;

· Finding missing persons;

· Family member gambling-related movements;

· Trademark or copyright infringement corporate matters

· General investigation to obtain evidence to be used in civil or criminal matters.

By law, assignments investigating political figures, foreign diplomats, consuls, or their families, as well as the conduct of surveillance on certain protected (or militarily sensitive) places, foreign consulates, government buildings, departure and entry checkpoints, or certain private schools, require the special approval of the Singapore Police.

Private investigators are professionals who are good at finding information and can use it to help anyone who needs to know more background about a person or a business. They can help with a variety of tasks, but must act within the confines of the law to gather the information needed, which means there are certain things that private investigators cannot do. When hiring a private investigator, it’s important to work with one who is licensed so you can have confidence that information needed can still be obtained without breaking the law.
